Early Assurance Program Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law

Overview

The Early Assurance Program (EAP) to the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law provides an accelerated pathway for YU undergraduates with aspirations to enter legal careers. The Yeshiva University/Cardozo School of Law Early Assurance Program is designed for students who are intellectually curious, ethically driven, and who possess a strong commitment to a career in law.

This program offers high-achieving undergraduates a path from Yeshiva University to the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law.

Eligibility

  • Students must apply and be accepted to Yeshiva University Honors.
  • Minimum SAT score of 1480 (Critical Reading and Math) or ACT score of 33.
  • High school GPA of 95 or higher.
  • Evidence of interest in law through relevant experiences and leadership activities.
  • Applicants will be asked to respond to the following questions:

    Many students who declare themselves ‘pre-law’ at the undergraduate level, eventually select a different career path. What is your motivation to choose a career in Law and what makes you confident in that career choice?

    What do you think is the role of lawyers in society?

    Describe a time when you had to advocate for a position or cause.
    How would you handle representing a client whose values or beliefs differ significantly from your own?

BENEFITS

  • Students admitted to Cardozo Law through the Early Assurance Program are eligible to receive a merit scholarship equal to or greater than 50% of Cardozo’s annual tuition. The scholarship is automatically renewable for the second and third years of law school, provided that a student remains in good standing and is registered as a full-time student at Cardozo.
  • Straus Scholars also receive targeted academic and professional mentorship through the Straus Impact Office, and this mentorship continues with intellectual enhancement activities and professional networking post-graduation.

Academic Requirements

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.85, including transfer credits from other institutions.
  • Take all required courses at Yeshiva University.
    Complete at least 100 undergraduate credits by the time of application and 128 credits by graduation.
  • Participate in field-related internships, research, or volunteer work while at YU.
  • Engage in community service or extracurricular leadership activities. Meet regularly with their program advisors for progress reviews.
  • Provide required documentation, including official transcripts and committee letters, by the end of junior year.
  • Take the Law School Admission Test (LSAT) no later than October in the year prior to your planned matriculation at Cardozo. Receive a minimum score equal to the median LSAT for Cardozo Law’s 1L class in the year admitted to Yeshiva University. (For example, the median LSAT for Cardozo Law’s 2024 entering class was 164).
