Are Jewish studies required for the program?
Following the same structure as YU in New York, all students must take Jewish studies. The YUI Jewish studies program is an immersive Torah environment. Students will be placed in shiurim and matched with a chavrusa at their level.
Can I get Jewish studies credit if I stay for shana bet?
You are welcome to begin YU in Israel following shana bet. Credit is given for shana alef only.
If at any point I want to depart from the sequential program, whether switching to YU in New York, or changing my major, will my credits transfer?
You are expected to complete the program as designed, however, any requested changes will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
Will men's and women's Jewish studies both be on the YU in Israel campus, and will they be separate?
On distinct campuses and separate batei midrash, men and women will have their own robust Jewish studies programs including classes and chavrusa.
Upon completion of the degree programs, will I have market-ready career opportunities and/or a pathway to graduate programs in Israel and abroad?
Yes, the academic programs are designed to prepare for field specific careers. The YU In Israel program staff as well as the Shevet Glaubach Center for Career Guidance will provide ongoing support and guidance for program graduates seeking employment. The staff will also provide advisement for students choosing to pursue advanced degrees at either Yeshiva University or Israeli universities.
If I spend my post-high school year in Israel in a yeshiva that is not part of S. Daniel Abraham Israel Program (SDAIP), will I still be eligible for YU in Israel? What if my yeshiva is not affiliated with YU?
YU will honor credit awarded by SDAIP affiliated yeshivot. Transcripts presented from any other Israel school will be evaluated on a case by case basis.
Can Israeli citizens enroll in this program?
Yes.
Will I have access to the same career and graduate school guidance that students have at YU in New York?
As a student at YU in Israel, you have access to YU’s Shevet Glaubach Center for Career Strategy and Professional Development, who will provide individualized career and graduate school guidance and support, along with access to guidance departments and personnel from our partner institutions.
Do I have to live on the YU Israel campus after my year in a yeshiva? Do I have to live on campus throughout my time in the program?
Yes, living on our Jerusalem campus is the best way to enjoy the benefits of the rich campus life, establish deep and lasting relationships within the cohort, and feel a part of the YU community.
What does tuition include?
The cost of the program includes tuition to Israeli universities, full Torah studies, housing, campus life activities and student guidance as well as transportation to and from partner institutions.
Does the program provide health insurance in Israel?
International students will be provided basic health insurance through an Israeli insurer, with an option to add additional levels of coverage through a YU-recommended agent.
Are there scholarship opportunities available for this program?
A $3,000 Honors Scholarship will be awarded to YU-accepted Honors students. Need-based scholarships may be available. Each application will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
